1787 Occupy Manifesto

Every word of this document – except those between [ ] - is taken from the Antifederalist Papers written and published between 1787-1789 to protest the architecture of the current dysfunctional government.

(Antifederalist No. 4 - 1788) No government can flourish unless it be founded on the affection of the people. (Antifederalist No. 26 -1788) There are many among you that will not be led by the nose by rich men, and would scorn a bribe.  Rich men can live easy under any government, be it ever so tyrannical. They come in for a great share of the tyranny, because they are the ministers of tyrants, and always engross the places of honor and profit, while the greater part of the common people are led by the nose, and played about by these very men, for the destruction of themselves and their class.  Be wise, be virtuous, and catch the precious moment as it passes, to refuse this [dysfunctional] federal government, and extricate yourselves and posterity from tyranny, oppression, aristocratical or monarchical government. > ….......

why not? they are the blueprint for the constitution. The constitution is not dead, and we could easily use it the documents like it and these to fix the system now that we recognize we have been played.

appreciate the link, is it true that OWS is considering these papers the blueprint for our own manifesto.

If I understand it correctly the Antifederalist Papers are against the structure the US government has in theory. Which would make sense IF article V did not exist.-----

Article. V.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.-------

Article V goes over the federal government, but it does it with state powers.-----

This is strategy, because now we can demonstrate at state capitals, demanding application of article V and enforcement of the constitution, for longer periods, easier, having greater force of law at each place, appropriately in this phase of the citizens law enforcement campaign. There is no higher exercise of law than defending the constitution. Invocation of the constitution in its own defense is the pinnacle. Article V is where citizens, through state ratification elections COMPLETELY control the federal government.-

No wonder, congress is terrified of it.-----

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_to_propose_amendments_to_the_United_States_Constitution "Congress acted preemptively to propose the amendments instead. At least four amendments (the Seventeenth, Twenty-First, Twenty-Second, and Twenty-Fifth Amendments) have been identified as being proposed by Congress at least partly in response to the threat of an Article V convention."
