Property is owned by people. One of the rights we enjoy as Americans is the right to private property. No person or group has the authority to take that away from another unless the owner gives up the property willingly or gives up the right to own said property. The venue of this demonstration is private property. The owner at any time can kick out the demonstrators and they are obligated to leave. Is this demonstration in favor of taking from one and giving to another when the recipient has no right to it?
It is NOT private property. It's a piece of land given over to public use to the city of New York, in exchange for zoning variances. The agreement was that Brookfield would maintain the property can keep "ownership" but that the public would be allowed unrestricted use. Brookfield owes a "debt" to the city for be allowed to build buildings higher than the allowable limit. Or, we could call it a bribe.
It is very, very apropos that it wound up being the site of this demonstration, which is all about the unhealthy blurring of boundaries beteween public and private interests.
Never could understand private property. Nor can i understand private property arguments within the framework of this movement. It comes across the same way as conversations i have with anarcho-capitalists..vaguely oxymoronic. What was the original intent of private property? Think: Rentiers. And then think about what our forefathers were: wealthy landowners. What we have is modern-day feudalism..but our lords don't live on the land..they inhabit a digitized "market"...
You don't understand private property? Excellent! I will now educate you. Private property is the direct result of making wise fiscal decisions and working hard and not blowing your future money with credit cards and smoking crack. You say "What we have is modern-day feudalism..." Do you believe that the United States is filled with capitalist pigs? Do you realize that without those capitalist pigs, most of the United States would not have a job. Now that we got a socialist in the white house, we could be killing the golden goose of captialism. I have a job working for a captialist pig. And I'm very thankful for that pig for giving me the option to work for him. He values my labor to provide me the right to purchase private property. That's economics 101 -- the law of natural exchange of goods. Without the flow of this natural exchange, we are under tyranny and bound for failure.
Now that you have been educated, understand this. If you ever attempt to take my private property, I will hold you accountable to reconsider your decision. "You toucha my stuff and I breaka you face!"
