Moore gives advice to #OWS “... I just came from there ten minutes ago. I’m down there a lot and I put my two cents in, and I’ve encouraged them don’t fall for the trap that the mainstream media wants. Cause they’re demanding who’s the spokesperson here, and I tell them you’re are all the spokespeople. Who’s the leader? You’re all, we’re all, we all of us are the leaders, and don’t let this be a single issue thing... Let it be what the people want."

" Moore encourages the Occupy movement not to fall for the trap that the mainstream media wants – demanding a spokesperson and a single issue statement. “It should not lock on to any single issue,” Moore says. "

This Position of Mr. Moore is a Trap itself:

Eventually .. the Protests will wane .. eventually .. without making One Single Demand to Correct that which drove the Protesters into the Streets.

The Protest will have Lost - The Established Corruption in Washington .. the Campaign Finance which Buys Votes .. will Remain.

I find it Difficult to Imagine Mr.Moore does not see this and should he .. that he issues such a Statement .. that the Movements should Cripple themselves by remaining UNFOCUSED .. they could just as easily be crowing en mass about the Price of Tennis Shoes .. bringing the Same Results :

No Results

Mr.Moore .. You Sir .. need to take a Moment.

If WE do not WIN Campaign Finance Reform for Our Nation

WE LOSE Our Nation to CORPORATISM Forever

you are being silly. whats needed is 1001 issues epxlored in depth on awiki, and an article 5 convention and a new political party to name two things are far more important than mere campaign finance reform. what? reform the financing by let the oligarchs stay in power?

Michael Moore is the man!

[-] 1 points by Marc526 (44) from Lodi, NJ 13 years ago

If he believes that he should be quiet because his name is all over that speech. I never cared for him because of one reason only stop talking and start doing! Doing means be active in your community. Doing means give money to those in need. Doing means stop eating and living large and fee your fucking fans then! Now as for they're being a ONE I'm one your one he's one wouldn't you like to be ONE too?

I don't see how saying you want the private money out of elections and the jobs back in America would be any kind of a trap.

Let it be what the people want means there's nothing we really have to do. Reminds me of people who champion huge unsolvable problems like world hunger so they can seem compassionate, but don't do any local volunteering where they have to actually act. You need a goal, or otherwise everyone is just hanging out. Take a risk, put yourself out there and decide to do something specific.

world hunger is not unsolvable

[-] 1 points by JackPulliam3rd (205) 13 years ago

but it's more difficult than helping to clean up a park. some people just like to talk, others do something.

I understand that those that act also talk

Moore is a buffoon who doesn't know the difference between capitalism and corporatism.

Then again maybe he does ....

[-] 1 points by Kman (171) 13 years ago

You can always tell when an individual is hitting a chord. Everyone tries to demonize him. That's what we see here with Moore.

He's speaking the truth. We cannot have one individual as a spokesperson from the movement. We cannot let this degrade into a handful of issues we want to change.

This is a critical moment in world history. We cannot allow the media, corporations, or government to dictate what happens!

This thing of ours, if it gets even a little further than it has already the disinformation campaign is going to go into overdrive (if it hasn’t already, other repressions to follow)? We have a difficult task, an awesome duty to awaken people; startle them without scaring them. We need a non-divisive, internally consistent, easily discernible and relate-able narrative. Our one goal, as I believe that is all we can afford without division, needs to be: Amend the Constitution for government ONLY financing of elections, no contributions, from anyone; rendering Citizens United a moot point. It’s the only piece of this that resonates with the anti-establishment left, the anti-establishment right and everyone in between, including many of those who make 350k+. Sure It’s great to make that kind of money but that doesn't mean you want to spend it on some one's (or even your own) campaign. There, your tiny breath will be drowned by the deafening wind of the mega-corps, the uber-unions, and by treacherous and selfish interests of all types, to the detriment of society. This is the banner under which we can unite, indeed must unite. We must amend, then we can debate what kind of society we want, which policies, parties, or politicians, or ideologies to endorse. Until democracy is unleashed and the republic restored there is no way forward. The pulse of this movement endlessly uniting and growing, immune to their false discourse will so tremble those who cannot be won, they will proactively try to appease us. Won't that be nice? They will try to buy our petty differences and desires, preying anew on the weary and the wavering. But we, the proud children of a free nation will not be appeased by half measures, promises and lies. We want what we deserve, that which is ours by moral right, paid for by the spirit of our martyrs, a meaningful say in the matters that properly concern us.

Citizens United is already a moot point - the voice of a corporation is but the voice of an association of people, whether that corporation be non-profit of for-profit. They should have a right to a voice using electronic means within 30 days of an election. That's what this was about. The law also requires full disclosure, meaning, that the source of the of the voice or its true origination, must be disclosed or publicly available to all. And most voters WILL consider the source of any message.

This is not the modus operandi... corporations prefer to discreetly and directly influence through the use of PAC money.

There's a reason that Citizens Untied wanted to express this rather conservative message about Hilary on pay channels prior to the nominations. And they should have been permitted to do so. It doesn't matter - it was discovered that she had been accepting contributions from the Chinese crime syndicates, and she lost the nomination.

[-] 1 points by dankpoet (425) 13 years ago

The money in politics has in no way been rendered moot. Political attack adds are already being run against politicians who don't even have an opponent yet through non transparent PAC founds, without disclosure because they don't qualify because the election is so far off. This is insanity, a waste of productivity, and a detriment to society.

Well, again I would say this is a free speech issue. Personally, I welcome the ads as part and parcel of national political debate and discourse. But... had Citizens United not been overturned, it would have set precedent. And it may very well have shut down all political discourse by electronic means within 30 days of an election. Not only would TV news stations (and possibly the Internet as well) been prohibited from any political discussion, but the parties as well, as corporations themselves, would have also been denied. Ok, so we are living in this world of technology... trying to achieve some level of mass mind through tv and the Internet... some consensus in elections... and we are not permitted to discus candidates in a national election? It makes no sense at all...

Yes, Michael Moore is right, don't fall into the mainstream media trap, fall into his so Michael Moore can make another 50 million off protesters.
