Apparently, it's whatever the hell you want it to be.

In NYC, OWS is primarily an effort at organizing Zuccotti Park into a self-governing commune. They don't make any demands for anything specific, they just want to be allowed to remain and have 6-hour-long general assembly meetings. Oh, and to drum all day. Or maybe not. They're still figuring that out.

In Albany, OWS is an effort hoping to pressure Andrew Cuomo to sign the millionaire's tax.

In Oakland, OWS is a "fuck tha police" movement.

Etc. etc.

There's no coordination among OWS groups, no agreed upon goals, no agreed upon tactics. Just a lot of sound and fury signifying... well, something interesting, but likely not anything effective.

Oh, Well I am sure that OWS has nothing to do with the front page of the New York Times, then. Did you read the article by Jeff Zeleny and Megan Thee-Brenan? Wealth inequality, is now a mainstream, front page topic of The New York Times. The New York Times wasn't running a propaganda smear campaign on OWS, like Fox News, the NYT was dealing with the underlying issues, in a mature and fair way. You really think that has nothing to do with OWS gaining ground or the winds of change, in the attitudes of most Americans? Hell, even the Congressional Budget Office is getting the big picture now. This movement will spread, it will be powerful and it will help achieve change in the USA. Reality will eventually trickle down to the executives and I-bankers, hiding in their New Canaan Connecticut McMansion panic rooms. [wink]

It already has been effective. It has gotten people of all walks of life together talking about the problems of this country.
