Grew up in Garden City, NY, college degree in biology, worked in social services, then customer services for financial services while doing activism with Greenpeace. Joined a Food co-op in NYC, then got a Masters in SocioEco Political Economics with a thesis about wind co-ops in Europe, and their origins in anti-nuke protests in Denmark. I worked in Africa for a year, after college, traveled through Europe twice, and visited NGOs like Friends of the Earth and Fair Trade FLO there. I also visited ecovillages in the US and Brazil. I married a Brazilian, and live in Brazil where I teach.
