On Today's Show (Randi Rhodes)

Friday, October 12, 2012

It's Friday, ya bastids!

Now that’s how you debate! I think I had almost as much fun watching that as Joe Biden seemed to be having doing it. The relentless lying of Romney and Ryan is a problem, and it’s horrifying to think that their strategy might work. Joe’s attitude told us that we can deal with it. All you have to do is keep a smile on your face… oh, and go ahead and laugh out loud at the really bad lies. Joe Biden believes that you cannot call a person a liar, even if they are blatantly lying. But he also knows you can use facial expressions to let everybody know that you know that they are a liar. The takeaway from this debate is—don’t be afraid to stand up to the malarkey! Some people are saying that using a term like malarkey makes Joe Biden sound old. That’s a bunch of hogwash! It’s horsefeathers, hokum, hooey, bunkum, and slushdoodle. OK, I made that last one up. Let’s just put it this way—it’s a “bunch of stuff.” Yes, at another point, Joe Biden used the phrase “bunch of... stuff.” I think he got halfway into it and decided that he had done enough dipping into the Big Book of Jazz Age Colloquialisms.

Once again, if you want to properly gauge how well Joe Biden did, just take a look at how poorly Fox News was trying to say that he did. Brit Hume actually called Joe Biden a “cranky old man.” Look, the guy is no spring chicken, but I guarantee he’s younger than anybody watching Fox News. (And yes, I deliberately used the term “spring chicken” so that the old-timers watching Fox News would understand.) Besides, what’s more likely to make an old guy cranky than a bunch of lies? Remember Big Daddy’s diatribe about “mendacity” in “Cat on Hot Tin Roof”? Did Joe laugh and smile at the things Paul Ryan was saying? What is he supposed to do when Ryan says Mitt Romney is “a car guy”? He’s lucky Biden didn’t throw up in his lap.

It’s somewhat less difficult to fact check this particular debate. Oh, Paul Ryan told plenty of lies... but at least Joe Biden began the fact-checking process during the debate itself. According to Think Progress, Paul Ryan told 24 myths in 40 minutes. That’s a lot of myths! He’s the Bullfinch’s Mythology of politics. Paul Ryan was spinning so many myths that I’m surprised that he didn’t get around to telling how Zeus made love to Leda in the form of a swan.

These cartoons are like the hats for the SuperBowl winners, each side already has them done up.

One wins, one loses, but at the end of the day, they got you watch, so really THEY are the ones that win.

Cartoonists are gender neutral creatures of opportunity.

Biden was expected to dance and he did not disappoint; he's devoted a significant portion of his life to comedy.

now the 2-Party candidates are selling off the 9/11/12 protest attack in Libya as a terrorist attack

in the Vice President debated Rimmer evoke al kidda and and Bidding just ley it pass

Rimmer claimed paper pushers were job creators

Jobs are created by paying someone to do something

if the government wants more people working , they should hire them

the 2 party candidates do not know about the poor only the middle class

cut tax, don't cut funding, don't increase the deficit

the 2 party candidates do not know about the poor only the middle class
Obama increased Medicaid & Medicare

romney: money cut from medicare

obama: bring down the price of a pill

[-] 1 points by ericweiss (575) 8 years ago

EXACTLY how does Obama cut the price of a pill ?
laws must go thru the Rs in the house
When we get rid of the tp Rs, Obama will be able to do that

[-] 0 points by bensdad (8977) 8 years ago

A tiny ( 8 ) undecided focus group was on MSNBC last nite Of the 8, 5 thought Biden won, 1 thought ryan, 2 undecided

I hope Obama can be as tough & honest as Joe

Excellent cartoons.

We must beat the right wing wackos like an old salvation army drum if we have any hope of reforming the corrupt broken system.

[-] -1 points by bensdad (8977) 8 years ago

What scares the daylights out of me is not the right wing wackos in congress -
its the right wing wackos who believe their lies & vote for them
and the other wackos who don't have the brains to differentiate

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 8 years ago

Well placed. It will take many election cycles, and much hard work protesting to change the posture/atmosphere of right wing created fear.

That is what must happen for the right wing voters to lose their influence.

The extremism of the tea party should be helping, & may force a split of the repub party. That would be helpful.

Defeating tea party candidates (Akin, West, Bachman, etc) Would be most helpful.

Obama WILL WIN! Hope returns!

[-] 5 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 8 years ago

Either way next year

The prison population will grow

Bombs will kill civilians

Raytheon will make more money

Americans will be spied on

Wages will remain stagnant

Crony capitalism will ensue

Unlimited resources will be given to banks instead of the people

and Goldman Sachs will continue dolling out bonuses for their CEO's

[-] 2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 8 years ago

Bingo. But the idiots just cant stop endorsing them. They literally cant help it. They know its bullshit, but they just cant freakin help themselves.

Societies usually behave in a very predictable manner when you can keep them divided.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 8 years ago

Well do you have a suggestion?

[-] 1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 8 years ago

Yeah people need to realize there is more going on here than meets the eye. There is an entire system based on profits for oppression.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 8 years ago

Wow you are so intuitive.

So I guess all we gotta do is just scream a lot of half sentence complaints and eventually enough people will know and everything will just change.

Cool. You are most helpful.

Rant on baby!

[-] 1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 8 years ago

How about we demand that trade agreements abide by American labor standards which would just about end all outsourcing of jobs as we know it.

We need to demand monetary reform so our monetary policy isn't just providing unlimited resources for the banks and nothing for the people.

We need to demand a constitutional amendment banning contribution based politics.

We need to demand these wars end YESTERDAY.

We need to demand an increase in minimum wage.

We need to demand reform many laws so we no longer lie and call ourselves the land of the free while we have the world's largest political prisoner population and spy on Americans and grope them in airports.

If you think talking about these issues is just ranting complaints... you are part of the problem.

Why are you even on this site if you're just going to attack people for talking about these kinds of issues? Also you're bad with sarcasm.

[-] 1 points by bensdad (8977) 8 years ago

as long as our government is OWNED by the people who pay for it, none of our goals can be reached
We can do what 80% of Americans say they want
We can do what 1,900,000 Americans signed
We can do what 363 local & state resolutions call for
We can do what 1,309 American mayors endorsed

Virtually every OWS goal –
jobs, taxes, government honesty, energy, environment, economy
all go back to EXACTLY one place

And there is EXACTLY one first step:

A constitutional amendment to
Overturn Citizens United and Corporate Personhood

For a complete analysis of the amendment issue,

and the text of all amendments,
and our comparison of all of the amendments,
and the Citizens United case transcript,
and the Citizens United decision,
and the Buckley decision,
and analysis of corporate personhood,
and analysis of Article III,
and the ABC News poll on CU / CP,
and the PFAW poll on CU / CP,
and 70+ videos on CU / CP from

Chomsky, Hedges, Witchcraft, Reich,
Warren, Lessig, Hartmann, Maher, Sanders, Hightower, etc.

and our voting bloc petition & plan.

"bad with sarcasm"? "attack people for talking about issues"? "part ofthe problem"? I am not interested in you personal opinion of me. Feel free to refrain.

"why are you even on this site?"? trying to get me off the site? useless, I will never be convinced to leave.

I challenge you to discuss solutions instead of meaningless attack slogans. And one sided partisan attacks.

I agree with your suggestions above!

But "end wars YESTERDAY"? That is not possible, and if you truly were interested in ending the wars/drone bombings and constitutional violations then you will discuss the roots of these problems.

We must end the fear mongering created 11 years ago when the 9/11 attacks were exploited, and perpetrated still by some pols whose constituents benefit from the war mongering.

Prison problems are very deep and rooted in racism, if you truly want to resolve that issue you must address those roots.

Trade agreements, Agree protest & voting progressive can help. Money out of politics, Agreed, support 'move to Amend', minimum wage agreed, living wage with COLA, protest, vote progressive!

Monetary policy, Agree it needs real change but I an not informed enough to discuss at length.

All of these issues deserve deep discussion. Simplistic one line complaints & blaming one politician does not further solutions.

Attacking me personally or trying to convince me to leave the site simply reflects the weakness of your arguments. It's useless. You won't convince me by insulting me, & hopefully you're not one ofthe guys who come here for some sick pleasure to insult people.

These personal attacks are a big part of our politics and culture. We here have a responsibility to show the civil, & respectful way to interact.

I am committed to that, even when dealing with people who disagree with me & even when they attack me.

Join me in that at least.
