Even without pollution, groundwater is being used faster then it can be replaced in any of the states that don't have a humid climate. Growth in the arid and semi-arid states will eventually lead to water becoming a valuable commodity. Pollution will accelerate the trend, as will population growth and water demands by farming.

The east has historically had surplus rainwater, but changing climate patterns could alter this.

I'm not defending fracking at all. I'm saying that even without considering its dangers, groundwater in much of the country can't be replenished as fast as it's used. You live in a prairie state and you're screwed anyhow. It's just going to take a bit longer if fracking doesn't harm your aquifer.

Your probably right as last 3 years we have had over 30 days at a time over 100 degrees. Do you know that the blooms of EVERYTHING fall off with just a few days over 100 degrees? Toward the end of the 1st year I figured out that if I started sprinkling my plants at 1PM until 4PM every day that would keep them from dropping their blooms and I would get a harvest. That is my strategy now for the past 3 years. Hope we don't run out of ground water or my garden is screwed also. I make a mean FRESH salsa.

Climate change and dangers from things like fracking are certainly serious, but in addition to those we have also been over pumping water from aquifers for decades.

The lake that they use to feed water to our city is so low its 70 yards from the points to the water. All the boat ramps are on the ground. Ill have to see what this rain does to it. I haven't been out there since January and we have had a big snow and this 1and a quarter inch rain today. I doubt much of it runs off though to the rivers. Ive seen trees just fall over cause the roots are dried out and a big wind comes along.

Sinkhole anyone?

[-] 1 points by analystwanabe99 (153) 11 years ago

Ya think? I wonder what the engineers found when they looked into that deep dark hole? How does a sink hole that big just form under a home? Strange Where was that?

Florida - land of spongy ground and near surface aqua-fir's.

I know its a good batch when I drink 3 beers while Im adding and adjusting the final seasoning to the batch. I usually make 10 gallons at a time. Sell it for 7 bucks a quart. Been developing the recipe for 10 years now.

You think Libya was about oil?

Or liberating the people from a tyrant?

Ever heard of the Nubian aquifer?

KBR built the largest irrigation project in the world for Qadaffi.

Brought water to the desert. He believed in sharing a nation's wealth.

WOW, a leader who works for the people. What a concept! Is this the same guy we just assisted out of office?

[-] 1 points by Builder (4202) 11 years ago

Yeah. He had more gold than the west.

Started talking crazy, like demanding more than paper notes for oil.

Hey, you're not that multiple personality disorder guy again?
