It is not difficult to understand that the ceos and the cfos and all those who have made it their lives work to promote the fossil fuel industry as the fundamental component of the global energy equation - they will not let go of all they have built.

They will not. They will not relinquish their status or their position - much less the wealth that their position generates.

They will die first.

The very same thing may be said of all of those who have with tremendous patience hijacked our economy and subverted our political and our judicial systems of government. They will not let go of all they have worked so hard for so long with such patience to create. They will not.

They will die first.

This is a fact with which we must absolutely come to grips.

Those who have slaved for so long and so hard and sacrificed so much will not see all that they have built taken away. Not now. Not ever. Not for any reason.

They will die first.

We must come to understand this very simple and self evident fact.

We must come to understand this very simple and self evident fact, and then we must decide how we will act.

We must come to understand this very simple and self evident fact, and then we must decide

that we must act.

They will die first.

If only - but they are the current deadly plague that is killing all life on the planet. Unfortunately it seems that there is no cure and while the plague carriers will eventually die - more just seem to keep popping up to take their place.

what I'm attempting to do is to illustrate their level of commitment and do so in a manner that everyone can understand.

Think of all of the people who have stood in utter defiance of nature as a forest fire raged around their homes. People can be very reluctant to let go of their lives work.

Only we are not talking about individual homes but rather an entire industry, one that currently enjoys complete dominance of the global economy.

These men will not begin dismantling all they have built - not for any reason.

This is the commitment we are up against, no matter if we are talking about the KXL pipeline or some other aspect of the energy issue.

Look at the destruction of the Nigerian Delta. It is absolutely impossible to conclude that these individuals will raise one finger to save either humanity or civilization, and that despite their entire dependence on civilization for everything they have and any hope of a future their children may have.

They can't see it - they don't think that way.

Tis truly sad. They are in the best position to make a speedy transition and continue with reaping their wealth ( the greedy bastards ) and yet they are fighting tooth and nail to use the very last drop of fossil fuel - and then what? - if they survive that suicidal stance/program - they will still need to transition anyway.

Hansen was clear in 2012 It's Game Over if Canada exploits the tar sands.

Game Over.

Doesn't matter what the Canadians do - we can't let the tar sands be shipped through the U.S.

Period.

We need to stand up and say no, not happenin. And then we need to use our considerable leverage to pressure the Canadians into leaving the shit in the ground.

And here we are stuck with an undetermined policy regarding the pipeline.

It is insane really, when you look at it.

Yep - suicidal stance - the insane assholes.

[-] -1 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

here it is two years later and they are still pushing for a pipeline, still exploiting the tar sands, and the weather continues to deteriorate as the atmosphere warms and holds more moisture . . .

They are still maintaining the pressure and their demand for a pipeline.

This is who they are. They will not stop until they are dead.

Where are the modern day miracles? - "news flash" - " every single wealthy asshole in the world dies in their sleep overnight " - "news flash" - " astonishing as it sounds authorities are stating cause of death as severe methane poisoning from their own flatulence "

[-] 0 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

LoL! I heard a rumor once . . .

but never mind.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (34849) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 months ago

Heh heh - what? - death by flatulence? - all that rich food and one too many candles and.................boom? {:-])

[-] 0 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

yeah-ya that must be it

There was a rumor I heard once about the CIA, FSB, and the MSS getting together to bring about the rapture using satellite based technology to induce heart attacks among the population and so assume control, but I can't recall how the entire scenario went.

There was something to the effect that the new leaders would insist on calm, that it was all predicted and there was nothing to fear, and they would begin dispensing the new belief system from there . . . .

I can't remember how it all went. It was an interesting rumor though.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (34849) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 months ago

Ha ha HA - satellite rapture - heheeheeeee - see Rexella? Ya see?

[-] 0 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

yeah-ya that's it something like that

I think I posted it over at tbd.ning or something. I can't remember. It was a lot of fun though. So was Operation Feedback.

I got a real giggle out of that. I'm reasonably sure a few people spilled their coffee on that one, but I could be mistaken.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (34849) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 months ago

Careful careful ( note to self ) no doubt there are quite a few real believers living (?) in the Bible Belt. One obvious problem I have with it all ( kinda stands out like a smashed thumb ) - what about all of the bodies? I mean aren't people supposed to just disappear? Huh . . . a new interpretation?

[-] 0 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

Of course there are - which is why they have turned their backs on science. they cannot reconcile testable hypotheses with their religious faith.

It's a cheap & easy breakfast, I have full blown nacho's planned for later.

Did you know they chased off GF in during your hiatus?

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (34849) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 months ago

I noticed she left - but I doubt that she got chased away - not by those pathetic bunch of forum attacking losers - no way.

It's a cheap & easy breakfast

OH SHIT - "cheap & easy" - now I am seriously uneasy!

A good reply to a bald faced lie DKAt !!! You show more wisdom and intuition than GF and her enablers did sadly !! She tried to become a bit of a propagandist for Israel which is fine - but she could not handle it when her forum-posts and comments were either contested or ignored !

I did take her on, on her ''Mandela Legislator'' & ''Jerusalem's Missing Voters'' threads but look up at her forum-posts from that point to see what I'm saying here. She bullied and was ''100% aggressive'' to long established posters such as bw, elf, Middleaged, Renneye, Underdog amongst others on this and other matters and was not shy about swearing and bullying despite her own intelligence and wit.

Like a lot of bullies she didn't like anyone standing up to her. I'm sad she's gone for reasons of the agon if nothing else but she was NOT ''chased off'' (as you yourself intuit) and that lie can NOT be allowed to stand unchallenged here for The Standing Record and I hope that she comes back.

Also fyi DKAt two very recommended videos ; the first one short and self-explanatory and the second much longer and on many important matters but if you don't have time or energy for the whole thing, please see for 5 minutes from minute 23 of the 2nd or 3rd links below :

I really recommend these to you & thanx for the solidarity on my unreasonably and capriciously banned forum-post : https://occupywallst.org/forum/what-the-1-dont-want-you-to-know-by-bill-moyers-a-/ ...~*~...

Right but ''fanatics'' are more often 'conservative' than not DKAt !!! So called 'moderates' subscribe to all sorts of extreme positions !! All is not as it seems and to resist and struggle for The 99% needs love, light, logic and some level of tenacity, perseverance and a degree of belligerence if need be !

I reply above, both in response to your linked comment and your recent forum-post here :

Any thoughts about those videos above D ? I again recommend Thom Hartmann @ 23-28m in 2nd link.

That it is.

Should I mention the racism involved in all those chemical spills?

http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/05/02/3433529/poor-black-latino-chemical-spills/

I wonder what part of DC those oil trains will be traveling through?

my guess would be nowhere near ANY of those tony town houses.

I don't know, but it might not matter. Half of Lac-Megantic is gone. In the age of terrorism it doesn't seem likely that CSX will get their expansion in DC. I think it must represent to large of a potential drain on DHS resources and thus too valuable a potential distraction to would be terrorists to allow the expansion to go forward.

I would be really surprised.

[-] 5 points by DKAtoday (34849) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 months ago

Hhmmmmm the insane assholes might see it as an ideal way to clear-out the slums around the capitol - a few accidents - fires running somewhat out of control - rebuild/relocate elsewhere due to remaining toxins.........

[-] -1 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

This kind of . . . urban renewal . . .. is not at all unheard of - and these distractions could prove quite suited to campaigns of assassination.

Brings to mind New York as well as other large cities = crumbling infrastructure - too expensive to rebuild/refurbish/renovate = mass condemned properties/neighborhoods = mass movement of people = walla - revitalized business properties........ oh and ever rising rents elsewhere/everywhere.

Edit -> determinedly designed for rapid expiration. And in an ever growing unhealthy manner.

Yep - really makes one wonder how building for duration/longevity/adaptability ever happened at any point in history!

[-] 0 points by shooz (18066) 2 months ago

All of those were the result of incompetence.

Although, if it could be proven that it was done for the purpose of pipeline promotion, it could be prosecuted under collusion laws as well as terrorism laws.

now that would an expose.

[-] 1 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

I'm reasonably certain it will never be proven. The most sophisticated acts of terror today do not rely entirely on overt acts of sabotage conducted in darkness.

Rather the systematic examination of the human resources reveals weaknesses in behavior suitable for exploitation such that factors like fatigue can be induced and so exploited at the appropriate time.

At least, that's my theory.

I haven't actually attempted an application. But we could. I'm sure. Easily enough.

With the induction of fatigue, combined with a bit of distracting slight of hand at just the right moment, who knows how much chaos we might induce?

I know it must seem radical to some, whether one regards it as embodying some degree of subtlety or not. The salient point is that we must begin to understand what exactly is happening if we are to have any chance whatever of impacting events in a positive way.

Global Warming no longer hovers in the wings, it looms over the entire stage.

The fossil fuel industry absolutely demands a business as usual attitude. They will do everything in their power, from raising prices to bribing authority to engineering accidents, to ensure that their industry dominates for the foreseeable future.

They have no plan to offset the increase in atmospheric carbon.

They have no plan to regulate the global mean temperature.

They are reckless in the extreme, and there is no amount of talking that will change that.

That's just the way it is. It's time to accept that, and plan accordingly.

[-] -1 points by ZenDog (13713) from South Burlington, VT 2 months ago

I really like this poem. Simple, understated, completely uncompromising without any hint of drama.

It makes the case very well.

  • Material?

I really do like this poem. It isn't among my most favorite but I do like it. I find it forms a very solid bridge between what is truly formal poetry and that which is nothing but prose, and it does so with some very forceful repetition, which the theme demands; and while there may not be metaphor or forms of symbolic juxtaposition, there remains a degree of irony and a fundamental truism that is almost proverbial.

It is obvious that no one will simply relinquish an entire life's work and yet few consider it very seriously when discussing the fact of Global Warming, what to do about it, or the resistance toward that doing that one does encounter.

Obvious and yet overlooked.

This is a marvelous poem and as such and given its subject matter stands as yet another clear demonstration . . .

  • something is radically off with this audience.
