Facebook? Oh, yes, I've heard about it...a kind of Mara river for the uprights.

[-] 2 points by amanofnoimportance (82) from Orlando, FL 14 years ago

Already closed for about a year.

Once it is closed you can contemplate how eager your "friends" are to maintain their "friendships" with you.

You may have your eyes opened about "family" as well.

I closed my Facebook account months ago. Thank God.

[-] 2 points by jbgramps (159) 14 years ago

I've never had a Facebook account. Personally I think it's a example of how vain people can be.

Didn't an Anonymous group try to shut down FB? And didn't the actual group condemn them? Why was that?

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 14 years ago

Need corporate sponsors? Planning a flash mob? Need all your personal information exposed? Just say FACEBOOK!!

[-] 1 points by JadedCitizen (4277) 14 years ago

Way ahead of you. Never opened one to begin with.

US Government Monitoring Facebook for Federal Reserve Protests

Supposedly, Zuckerberg's second VC cash infusion ($10 million, I think) came directly or indirectly from the CIA. If so, FB's pretty much been in the pocket of the PTB since its early days. IMO, FB's not much more than a data mine for the US government and their corporate cronies.

And a place for people to assert and confirm their pseudo self-importance.

[-] 1 points by SparkyJP (1646) from Westminster, MD 14 years ago

Think of the time and money it saves them - Why wouldn't they use it ............... or even own it?

Facebook CIA connection

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 14 years ago

Exactly. That ten million was chump change compared to the mind-boggling wealth of personal information (and personal connections) they've gathered. Everything a person puts on their FB page becomes the property of FB and by extension, the feds. How many are actually aware of this?

[-] 1 points by SparkyJP (1646) from Westminster, MD 14 years ago

I guess now that they're going public Friday, FB can get the people to pay for their operation. Just the fact that FB is being listed on the stock market, should turn the stomachs of OWS members. I wonder how many have read their privacy statement?

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 14 years ago

The fact that they're even going public should make people wonder what the bigger picture is. They most certainly don't need the money. There's something else going on, I suspect. And in answer to your question, I'll bet very few. And of the ones that did, did they really understand?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 14 years ago

I don't know. So many people use facebook and they ( facebook ) get money from advertisers.

I think it is kind of funny if their corporate ad product can contribute to social change. You know - knock down corrupt greedy criminals? Ironic gift of Karma?

Well that's my opinion anyway.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 14 years ago

Don't expect to get much positive social change from FB. If anything, it'll be the opposite. The PTB will use it as a tool to sway the opinions of the young. In fact, as the recent "Kony 2012" campaign shows, they already have begun. But, as it also showed, they'll have a tougher time than they figured. Why? Because the attention span of today's young people is shit. To them, if it's not 'trending,' it's not important. Which means we have a serious uphill battle ahead of us.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 14 years ago

OH - yeah - fighting the PTB - I knew it would be a long a viscous battle from the start.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 14 years ago

Yes you did.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 14 years ago

Now I have a daily fan-club of attackers. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 14 years ago

I noticed that. I wish I was popular. heh heh.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 14 years ago

Careful what you wish for. You are starting to get a notable score and they love to attack people with high scores.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 14 years ago

Funny how they value those points higher than we do. Go figure. The more you participate the less credible you are? Logic is obviously not one of their strong suits.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 14 years ago

They have this belief that there are leaders and that they need to attack the leaders to bust up the movements against them.

They have never been able to understand a leaderless movement.

No one to attack - no way to discredit the movement.

That is why they try to tie any crime that happens near a protest or encampment to the protest groups.

Discredit what you have no other way of fighting.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 14 years ago

Makes a lot of sense. It also explains why they came here and targeted their attacks on those of us with the highest points (you, GK, shooz). Shows they have just as much understanding of 'karma points' as they do a leaderless movement.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 14 years ago

Yep - blind marchers - not too bright.

Ah - still being stalked by the silent vote down crew.

Tired of throwing insults?

Or are you leery of attracting unwanted attention?

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 14 years ago

I'll toss ya a couple of up votes old friend.........:)

It has been getting harder to be heard in here.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 14 years ago

Not a problem shooz - I don't care about the score - I just don't want good comments collapsed.

Thanks for the offer - if you see any -4 please feel free.

Yes it is a movement action day so they are of course out in force.

Predictable.

A Heads-Up For The Quislings

To "DKAtoday": What we don't know with certainty yet is who's paying you and your accomplices to subvert this forum - ostensibly for the OWS defiant - to co-opt them back into the flock of Demopublican compliant. We are painfully aware that we will never turn the lambs responsible for "99%" of the postings here into lions. But for the sake of the 1 in 100 that MIGHT raise their woolly heads, open their eyes and grow a pair, we cannot allow partisan operatives like YOU to reassure them that voting for the lesser of two corporate-controlled evils is an "exercise in democracy". You are a traitor to everything OWS stands for, "DKAtoday". And when the time is right, your protective veil of anonymity will be lifted. It was pierced several days ago. In the interim, I suggest you Google the word "Quisling".

P.S. Getting your accomplices to "ban" us once or one thousand times will change nothing.

Funny.

Yeah.

Sounds just like you and your blind marching crew of greedy corrupt criminal supporters.

Good one.

Thanks for raising your hand and waving for those who might not have recognized you yet.

I was doing research today to make a post with the exact title. You beat me to the punch. But I agree, if Facebook feels it has to "live on Wall Street", then why should Occupy Wall Street 'feed' them?

If you have an account with Facebook ............. YOU are the product

Just because Facebook is becoming public doesn't mean they are evil.

[-] -1 points by occuman (-21) 14 years ago

hahaha! So now it's facebook who is greedy. Explain that to me - they provide you a free account in exchange for posting advertisements all over the margins. explain to me the greed aspect of this.
